Description
RUG
ARTIST: Unknown Navajo artist
CONDITION: Excellent
The textile/rug is hand-woven in the traditional style of the Dine {Navajo} Nation Native
Americans of the Southwest.
Detailed Rug/Textile Description:
This textile/rug measures approximately 54” x 42” overall.
The textile/rug features a variation of a design commonly known as a “First Phase Chief’s”. The Chief’s pattern is well known to the indigenous Native American weavers of the Southwestern United States and is often replicated and/or altered by them. The textile is a simple striped pattern consisting of white, black and deep blue hues. Each stripe measures approximately 3 to 4 inches wide and stretches from edge to edge. {See photos for design details} The wefts per inch for this textile are approximately 60 to 70, creating a very tightly woven textile with excellent design detail. There is no indication of the actual maker of the textile. After a thorough inspection, we believe this to be a genuine Navajo-made textile. The styling and weave type of the textile/rug is indicative of 1980’s to the present.
