“Coyote transformation to Butterfly”
Created from a vertebra of a fish. A unique adaptation on the legend surrounding the coyote as a teacher and a trickster. With the ability to transform into many life forms and survive in almost any environment, the coyote is considered by many Native American people to be a powerful being. In this vertebra carving by Shinok of the Chickasaw Nation, the coyote becomes the beautiful butterfly and teaches everyone there is beauty within all beings.
