This basket is hand-woven in the traditional style of the Dine {Navajo} Nation Native Americans of the Southwest. : Detailed Basket Description: This basket measures approximately 22 ” across. Commonly referred to as a pictorial basket, the central motif/theme for this basket artwork is a variation of two steam locomotives or trains. Locomotive motifs are well known to the indigenous Native American weavers {esp. Navajo basket makers} of the Southwestern United States and is often replicated and/or altered by them. In excess of ten different colors were used by the artist in the creation of the particular basket. All the materials used in the fabrication of the basket are natural materials commonly used in the art of basket making {esp. by the Navajo} construction details.
This basket can be attributed to the well-known basket maker Sally Black of Monument Valley, Arizona. Ms. Black is a 4/4 member of the Navajo Nation, Arizona. The basket was created by Ms. Black in the early 2000s. The basket is in excellent like new condition.
